The farmers market, run by Down to Earth Markets is opening for the season on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot at Municipal Place off of 9A.

To celebrate mom, the event will feature a concert from Les Tappan Zigues (The Tappan Guys) from 10 a.m. to noon.

There will also be card making  with paper, glue sticks, glitter, and markers to make the perfect gift for mom.

The market is adding more food options this year, with fresh fish from Long Island-based American Pride Seafood. American Pride Seafood will be offering scallops, pollock, flounder, hake and tile fish.

Other new vendors include Acorn Hill Farms (offering goat cheese), Wave Hill Breads and Wright Hill Farms (offering fruits like apples, blueberries and strawberries).

"There is a lot more selection than there has ever been," Nicole Reed of Down to Earth Markets said.

Wave Hill Breads was named best bread on the East Coast by Michael and Jane Stern of roadfood.com and The Splendid Table on NPR.

"The people of Croton are enthusiastic supporters of the farmers market," Reed said. "We want to thrive here."

Reed said it is important that the farmer's market has the support of the Croton community.

"It allows us to promote the market," Reed said. "It feels really good to have this new season. We have vendors signing up and the market is beginning to grow."

Popular vendors like Dr. Pickle, John D. Madura Farms, Newgate Farms, Pika's Farm Table and Rexcroft Farm will be returning this year to the farmers market.

The market will run through Nov. 23.
