Cortlandt Waterfront Park Offers Scenic Spot To View Eagles

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Eagles were the celebrities on Saturday at the Cortlandt Waterfront Park during a festival dedicated to looking for them.

The Town of Cortlandt hosted the annual Hudson River Eagle Fest at the park and the viewing site had experts from the Audubon Society on hand to help people spot eagles. Cortlandt's recreation department served refreshments.

Cortlandt Waterfront Park got a facelift in recent years, gaining a community boat launch, upgraded playground, veteran's memorial and new picnic areas.

The park is on a parcel of land owned for many years by late resident Jim Martin, who ran a seaplane base on the property. Martin entered into a life estate agreement with the town in 1992.

The park is located at the end of Broadway on Riverview Avenue in Verplanck, a hamlet of Cortlandt.
