CORTLANDT, N.Y. – Officials recently dedicated two benches at Cortlandt Waterfront Park in the honor of two deceased town residents who served in the military.
U.S. Army Capt. Clayton Carpenter and U.S. Navy Shipfitter 3rd Class Russell T. Harrison were honored at the June 11 ceremony, according to a press release.
Carpenter, who grew up in Cortlandt and graduated from Lakeland High School in 2001, died in January 2014 during U.S. Army training exercises.
A 2005 West Point graduate, Carpenter had served in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Harrison, an active Cortlandt resident, died in January 2014 at age 91.
Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi and Lakeland High School Principal Lorrie Yurish each gave remarks at the event.
Carpenter’s family members, including his parents, also spoke about their son.
