Mount Vernon's American Christmas Earns Business Council Award

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- It’s always Christmas in Mount Vernon, At least it is at American Christmas, one of the nation’s top holiday decorating firms.

Fred Schwam, CEO of American Christmas in Mount Vernon, will be honored at The Business Council of Westchester’s Hall of Fame Awards. The business will receive the Family Owned Business award.

The business will be one of six individuals and companies to be honored on Tuesday, April 21, at The Business Council of Westchester’s Hall of Fame Awards at the Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle. Tickets are available through The Business Council of Westchester website.

American Christmas will receive the Family Owned Business award from The Business Council of Westchester. CEO Fred Schwam will accept the award.

Schwam’s team designs, manufactures, installs, removes, stores and refurbishes holiday displays for office lobbies, tenant offices, hotels, restaurants, banks, theaters, retail stores, shopping centers, hospitals and television sets.

Clients include Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Macy’s, Cartier, Bloomingdale’s and Madison Square Garden.

American Christmas has 385 clients and performs 525 installations each year. In addition, the company ships décor to over 2,000 stores throughout North America.

The company was founded in 1968 by Marvin Schwam. In 1988, Fred, Marvin’s son, became the CEO and owner of American Christmas.

Last year, the business had 50 full time employees and 125 seasonal employees, though many of the seasonal employees begin working as early as June. In 2014 the company, now a global provider of decorations, increased sales by 8 percent by expanding its scope of products and services.
