Cline will become the first woman president at LIU in the 87-year history of the university. She begins her duties in July.
Cline emerged as the top choice after a six-month nationwide search. She was appointed president of Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry in 2008.
“There is no institution quite like LIU,” Dr. Cline said in the release. “There are great strengths and opportunities in the diversity of its campuses, students and academic programs. I look forward to capitalizing on the synergies between its urban and suburban campuses to increase the University-wide value proposition for the students, faculty and communities LIU serves.”
Cline was also the chief financial officer of the State University of New York. She also served in positions at Seton Hall and Hofstra. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina and advanced degrees from Hofstra.
