Macy's To Lay Off 400-Plus New York Employees

Macy’s has announced closing dates for several of its New York stores, according to syracuse.com, which reported that the closures will leave more than 400 people out of work.

The department store chain, which is set to close about 65 stores nationally in 2017, said it will shutter stores in the upstate city of Rochester, town of Clay and village of Johnson City, and in the Douglaston section of Queens on April 18, according to syracuse.com.

In total, the store plans to close about 100 of its stores across the country in the coming years. Its stores in Yonkers, Yorktown, West Nyack, Nanuet, Poughkeepsie and Middletown will remain open.

The store closures are expected to eliminate 10,000 jobs across the United States, including 163 in Douglaston, 101 in Rochester, 73 in Johnson City and 69 in Clay, according to syracuse.com.
