CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital will showcase the work of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators  through its exhibit "Echoes" An Homage to Plants and Animals in Art" beginning Thursday, June 11.

The exhibit showcases the strong influence of natural flora and fauna on art throughout human history. It is the latest in a series of exhibits featured by the hospital’s “Art for Health” program.

“We are so lucky to have the The Guild of Natural Science  Illustrators - Greater New York Chapter exhibiting botanical style detail work at the hospital,’’ said Suzanne Ashley, Art for Health curator. “They are absolutely terrific and everyone should stop in to see their work.’’

The exhibit explores the theme of how nature has inspired artists throughout history. In this exhibition there are echoes of prehistoric cave painting, Egyptian hieroglyphs, classical architectural detail, oriental screen paintings, Renaissance book illustration and American folk art.

The exhibit was previously on display at the Environmental Science Center at Yale “Echoes: An Homage to Plants and Animals in Art,” can be viewed at the hospital daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the lobby gallery and along the main corridors.

Visitors may also view the permanent “Art for Health” collection, which features 500 original works in 13 gallery spaces throughout the campus. Artists interested in exhibiting at the hospital should contact curator Suzanne Ashley at the hospital. Contributions of art are also welcome.
