This is the company's first free-standing location in New York State.

The facility, which opened Saturday, Aug. 26., lists the American Red Cross among its partner charities, meaning you can help Hurricane Harvey victims by donating here.

Other partner charities include the Military Order of the Purple Heart and National Federation of the Blind.

Donated items are converted into much-needed funding to further each organization’s missions. For instance, the Military Order of the Purple Heart leverages their portion of the money raised by GreenDrop to pursue government grants and special programs. In the past decade, GreenDrop has raised more than $20 million for its partner charities.

GreenDrop has more than 28 locations throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, Maryland, and now New York. To further its mission of doing good for communities, charities, and the environment, the company builds its free-standing locations at abandoned gas stations and convenience stores.

The new site, at 660 North Broadway, formerly served as a Getty gas station. To make it easier for consumers, the locations are transformed into safe, brightly-lit centers where folks can pull up and have their donations collected by a uniformed attendant, thereby turning what was once an eyesore into a meaningful part of the community.
