More than 60 residents made their voices heard on the Cortlandt Daily Voice Facebook page when asked what businesses the town was most lacking.

The most desired store was department store chain Target, which does not have a store nearby.

“Target, definitely,” wrote reader Mich Conway. "It’s at least a 45-minute drive to get to one in either direction.”

A close second was upscale grocery chain Trader Joe's. A whopping 23 readers said they wanted the chain to open a store in town.

Other businesses getting lots of love from readers were the heath-conscious grocery chain Whole Foods and bargain variety store the Christmas Tree Shops. Some readers said they wanted eateries geared toward family entertainment such as Dave & Busters or Chuck E. Cheese's. Many readers said they wanted more chain restaurants such as Olive Garden or Red Lobster.

Reader Jill Ettinger Pagliettini said she’d like to see an Outback Steakhouse, a Sonic or a Cheesecake Factory.

“There are too many empty spaces in this town; we need some better restaurants,” Paglettini said.

Other readers wrote that they simply wanted more upscale shopping options.

“Any store where I could purchase quality clothing, food, housewares and not just made in china cheesy crap,” wrote reader Kristin Bergamini.“The stores in Cortlandt are just terrible.”
