"Everything is made starting with butter" and other simple ingredients, said Susan O'Keefe, owner and bakery namesake. "We start with everything, starting from scratch."

Baked By Susan was also one of the most commented on bakeries in the area. The Cortlandt Daily Voice Facebook users lit up when asked where they buy their holiday treats.

"susans is best on the planet," wrote Bobby Nolan. Rachel Leon wrote, "Baked by Susan is yummiest!!"

On a given day, O'Keefe can be seen buzzing from the bakery to her nearby home or baking in the company of her father, husband or three sons.

Baked By Susan doesn't specialize in a particular cuisine. Instead, it has curated a variety of recipes.

O'Keefe spent years baking with Hungarian and Italian grandmothers, and she includes many tarts and pies on her menu. American desserts, such as chocolate chip cookies and brownies, are also featured prominently. O'Keefe denies having a holiday specialty, but says, "Probably the cookies platters, but it's all, they're all handmade here."

Most holiday tarts start at about $22, but items at lower price points are available in the bakery. Holiday items peak at $48 for a gingerbread house.

"I always have something, but if you want something special you should call and order it," O'Keefe said.

Baked By Susan is open 7 to 11 a.m. Christmas Eve, and closed Christmas Day. Baked by Susan is at 163 Grand St., Croton. For more information, call 914-862-0874.
