The new chip will feature transistor gates that are only seven nanometers wide. By comparison, most industry standard for transistor gates is between 10 and 14 nanometers, Business Insider said.
IBM used a new alloy known as Silicon Germanium, which reportedly allows transistors to switch faster while using less power, Business Insider reported.
